Albuquerque police say a 4-year-old child was killed in a car accident last Wednesday.
It is believed the child and his mother were walking on the 4000 block of Barcelona just before the crash. It is believed that the driver jumped the curb and struck both the child and mother. Although this is the belief, police are not sure of all the details because the investigation is pending. The driver remained at the scene until police arrived. Paramedics were also at the scene and provided initial treatment to the boy before taking him to a local hospital. The mother sustained minor injuries and elected to ride to the hospital with the child. Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
The report did not say if the driver was cited or arrested at the scene. This is because it is early in the investigation and evidence has not yet been processed. The condition of the driver will be tested by police and the toxicology reports have not been released. Police are asking residents in the area for any information. Because this is a fatal collision, police will obtain data from the driver’s vehicle to determine his actions prior and during the crash. Ther has been no other details released about this accident.
We offer our condolences to the family of the 4-year-old. We can only hope swift justice will allow them to move forward in their lives.
