According to the report, Castillo was a passenger in a car that was driven by Edith Payton. Payton and Castillo were traveling down a road in the city when a Clovis Police Officer ran a stop sign and crashed into their car. It’s believed that the officer was conducting a routine patrol when he failed to stop at a stop sign. It’s unclear if the officer had his lights on or off at the time of the crash. As a result of the crash, both Payton and Castillo were injured as a result of the crash.
Mary Castillo was severely injured in the crash was died at University Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Edith Payton was also injured in the crash and was taken to Lubbock Hospital where she remains in critical condition. The investigation is still underway and at this time it’s unclear if the officer will face punishment for the crash.
