New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian that occurred in Santa Rosa.
According to the report, a commercial vehicle attempted to turn into the parking lot of a Pilot Gas Station before the crash. It’s unclear if the pedestrian was already crossing the road but, 56-year-old Vannassa Willingham was struck by the by the 18-wheeler. The police were called to the scene and arrived after an unknown amount of time. When medical personnel arrived, they pronounced Vannassa Willingham dead.
The crash is still under investigation and at this time, no official cause has been given. Police will likely review the camera footage from the Pilot Gas Station, however, it could be a while before that information is released. The driver of the commercial vehicle was still around when officers arrived and gave them a statement. Ater initial questioning, police were able to determine alcohol was not a factor. We will provide updates as they are released by state troopers.
