Deputies with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office are searching for witnesses to a crash that took place near Buffalo Thunder.
The report stated that 18-year-old Elias Arellano was speeding on a local highway near the casino. Investigators say Arellano lost control of his vehicle which caused him to cross into oncoming traffic. Arellano’s car crashed into the front of a car driven by 71-year-old Lucy Fresques. The impact of the crash was so severe, it pushed Fresques’ car into a third vehicle. Lucy Fresques was killed as a result of the crash. Arellano had a child in his vehicle, the child was airlifted to a hospital in severe condition. Arellano and the occupants of the third vehicle were taken to a hospital via ambulance and was released shortly.
Deputies are still piecing together the crash, however, they believe speed was a factor. The initial report didn’t mention alcohol, but deputies are likely testing everything, Since this was a major collision involving multiple people, it could take some time before information is processed. Santa Fe Deputies are urging anyone with information to contact the local sheriff’s office immediately. As of now, Arellano is not facing criminal charges, however, this may change. We will keep you updated as the situation progresses.
