63-year-old Alex St. James Arrested for her role in a fatal hit-and-run crash.
Police say St. James, was drunk at the time of the crash and this is what caused her to be negligent on the road. The initial report stated that James was driving on St. Michaels near Pacheco St prior to the crash. As James attempted to turn onto Pacheco, her vehicle went directly into the path of a motorcyclist behind her. The motorcyclist was identified as Anthony Archuleta and he was thrown from his bike due to the violent collision. There were witnesses nearby who saw James made a wide turn in order to quickly leave the scene.
Witnesses also called an ambulance in hopes of saving Archuleta and EMTs were able to transport him to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Archuleta’s wounds were severe and he was pronounced dead. Police at the scene talked with the witnesses who reported the crash and were able to gain a description of the vehicle. Authorities tracked James down shortly after and she was arrested by police,
James was booked on charges of aggravated DWI, failure to stop and provide aid, careless driving, and causing a fatality collision. The report did not say if James was denied bond, but she is still in police custody awaiting trial. We offer our condolences to the Archuleta family and hope they are able to move forward in life.
