Dale Valdez pleaded guilty to two counts of great bodily harm for a crash that took place in Espanola, NM.
According to the report, Valdez was arguing with his girlfriend who was in the car with him, prior to the crash. During the argument, officers say Valdez told his girlfriend that he was going to kill her now. Valdez then drove into oncoming traffic where he struck a vehicle driven by Alfredo Flores head on. Both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along N.M. 76 just before the crash and the collision closed most lanes of traffic.
Emergency personnel was called to the scene by drivers passing the wreckage and bystanders. As a result of the crash, the woman in Valdez’s car was severely injured. She was placed on life support for several days following the crash. Alfredo Flores was also hurt in the crash, sustaining injuries to his shoulder as well as heart trouble from the crash. The report didn’t say if Valdez was hurt in the crash. Valdez was arrested at the scene where he remained in police custody.
Instead of taking the case to trial, Valdez decided to enter a plea agreement with the DA’s office. Valdez will spend five years in prison and another five years on probation. Those who were affected by the crash are having trouble with the verdict. Alfredo Flores said his business will fail because of his injuries, he told the press he is unable to perform the duties his business requires, which will ultimately kill it. The family of Valdez’s girlfriend said they are still dealing with the injuries from that tragic day. We will keep you updated as the story develops.
We offer our condolences to those affected by the crash and hope they are able to regain the life they once had.
