Gallup Police are searching for the driver that hit a man walking across State Highway 18.
According to the report, a man named Ernest Begay was attempting to make his way across State Highway 18 prior to the crash. As Begay neared mile marker 16 he was struck by a vehicle. Investigators say the force of the collision caused Begay to fly through the air. Luckily, Begay was still living after the crash and was not majorly injured. The police were called to the scene and arrived after a short amount of time.
While paramedics treated Begay, he gave his statement to police. He identified the driver as a man in his 20’s about 5’10 with a slender build. He also told police that the driver was wearing an Applebee’s uniform. Begay told police that the driver did stop to check if he was okay, however, after Begay gave his answer, the man got into his vehicle and left. Police are looking for the driver of a blue-gray passenger vehicle. Officers went to a nearby Applebee’s to investigate, however, the manager declined to assist police. There is no more information about the crash. We will provide updates as they are released.
