Raymond and Brenda Garcia are suing the city of Santa Fe and former police officer, Joseph Cannon.
The suit claims that Cannon is responsible for crashing into their pickup while making an improper U-turn. The suit sets the scene by saying Raymond and Brenda were driving on Guadalupe Street when they attempted to make a left turn onto Paseo de Peralta. While making the turn the squad car driven by Joseph Cannon crashed into the side of their car. Brenda Garcia was in the passenger seat and sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. Raymond Garcia was also hurt, but his wounds were less severe.
Troopers with the New Mexico State Police conducted the investigation and concluded Cannon made an improper turn and Raymond Garcia followed the laws. Former officer Joseph Cannon resigned from the Santa Fe PD a short time after the incident, but it’s unclear if that was due to this crash. Raymond and Brenda Garcia have both recovered since the crash and are now seeking legal options, At this time, we know the couple is seeking compensation, but the amount is unknown. Cannon’s defense did not provide a statement to the press.
