A video released shows the moment a New Mexico State Trooper hit a bicyclist outside the state fair.
According to the initial report, a state trooper hit a bicyclist outside the crowded state fair. The video shows the trooper turning from Lomas onto San Pedro. The bicyclist was already in the crosswalk before the officer entered the turn. Luckily, the officer was driving relatively slow and minor injuries were sustained. After a brief investigation into the condition of the bicyclist after being treated by EMTs, the bicyclist admitted to drinking and using heroin.
The trooper is not expected to face criminal charges or disciplinary action from the NMSP. The footage from the dash cam also shows a heavy glare on the windshield of the troopers windshield. This significantly reduced the visibility of the trooper behind the wheel. The report didn’t say if the bicyclist was transported to the hospital for his injuries. At this time, it is unclear if the bicyclist will file a lawsuit against the trooper involved.
