Jessica Lucero’s trial is underway for the DWI crash that killed Daniel Torres.
According to the report by Albuquerque police, Daniel Torres was crossing the street at the intersection of Coors Blvd prior to the incident. Police believe that Torres had the right-of-way and Lucero ignored this. While Torres was in the middle of the street, he was struck by Lucero who then fled the scene without stopping. The report didn’t say who called the police, but emergency personnel arrived at the scene after an unknown time. EMTs likely tried to save Torres and were successful in stabilizing him. He was then taken to a hospital in Albuquerque. He held on for a few days, but his wounds were too severe.
Jessica Lucero was arrested a short time later and charged with a DWI, leaving an accident scene, and homicide by vehicle. Now that the trial has begun, more information will likely be released. The investigation has taken a while to conclude and the coming days will show what evidence was found. Forensic experts examined the data within Lucero’s car and will tell the jury her actions prior to and during the crash. The toxicology report already determines she was legally drunk during the crash. Stay tuned for updates on the case as it develops.
