Las Cruces Police are investigating the death of Ruth Cook after she was struck by a truck on I-10.
According to the report, 34-year-old Ruth Cook walked on a traffic lane and was hit by a large truck near Mesquite. Not much information is known about the collision, but there is some information. Alcohol was not mentioned in the report, so it was likely not a factor in the crash. However, state troopers were not able to say what caused the crash. Since this was a fatality collision, the investigation will be slow but methodical.
At this time, the driver of the truck is not facing criminal charges or citations for the crash. Authorities say Cook was walking in a traffic lane, however, the truck could have had time to avoid the crash. The following weeks will provide information about the crash and we will keep you updated. Also, if anyone has information about the crash, they should reach out to the Las Cruces Police Department. Interstate 10 near Mesquite in southern Dona Ana County is now open.
