Deming Police are investigating a crash between a car and a motorized wheelchair that left one man injured.
The report stated that 51-year-old Lino Chavez sustained injuries to his head after he was struck by a vehicle in Deming, New Mexico. The report stated Chavez was hit at the intersection of Kipling and Florida. Deming police responded to the crash around 8:40 p.m. where they found a motorized wheelchair flipped over and a white Mazda blocking the road. Officer noted the vehicle had damage to the front bumper.
Officers at the scene found Chavez not breathing and began to apply CPR. Chavez responded to the CPR and paramedics rushed to the scene. After an unknown time, paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed Lino Chavez to Mimbres Memorial Hospital. He was then airlifted to a hospital in El Paso in unknown condition. After Chavez was treated, police began to question the driver. The driver was a 22-year-old female, however, her name was not released.
The crash is still under investigation and at this time, no official cause has been given. The driver gave her statement to police and was not cited or arrested for the crash. We will provide updates as they are released by Deming Police.
