New Mexico State Police identified Beverly Bradbury as the pedestrian struck and killed on U.S. 380.
According to the report, Beverly Bradbury was walking on the shoulder of U.S. 380 before the crash. Officers say around 3:55 p.m., a vehicle driven by Margaret Cano-Sammis was also driving on U.S. 380. Investigators say Sammis’ vehicle drifted from the center lane onto the shoulder. However, Sammis couldn’t correct her vehicle in time and crashed into Bradbury who could not avoid the crash. The initial crash didn’t stop Sammis and she kept going until her crash crashed into a parked vehicle.
Police arrived at the scene and began questioning Sammis. While this was going on, paramedics tended to Bradbury but unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. After a few questions, police concluded she might be impaired and conducted a field sobriety test. Sammis admitted to officers that she uses medical marijuana and also took methadone that day. Margaret Cano-Sammis was arrested at the scene on charges of homicide by vehicle. It is unclear if she will face DWI charges as well. Stay tuned as we provide updates on the story.
