New Mexico State Police are investigating a head-on collision that claimed the life of both drivers.
According to the report, a pickup driven by Mary Jane Louton was traveling on State Road 173 in Navajo Dam prior to the crash. Going the opposite direction was a driver by the name of Peter Christensen. Troopers say Louton’s vehicle drifted pass the centerline and struck Christensen’s vehicle head-on. The crash was violent and drivers passing the wreckage reported the accident to police.
After an unknown amount of time police and medical personnel arrived at the scene. While officers secured the scene, medical personnel tried to work on the drivers. The report stated both Christensen and Louton sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Alcohol was not mentioned in the initial report, so police are likely waiting for the results of the toxicology report. The situation is still developing and we will provide updates as they are released.
We offer our condolences to the family Mary Louton and Peter Christensen and hope they find a way to cope with this tragic loss.
