New Mexico State police are looking into the crash that killed an unknown woman near Coors and Iliff
According to the report, a woman attempted to cross the street at the intersection of Coors and Iliff when she was struck by a truck. Witnesses to the crash called the police who responded within 15 minutes. By time officers arrived, the driver who hit the woman was still there. Police talked to the woman who was able to determine that she was not impaired at the time of the crash. After giving her account to police, officers began looking at this as a pedestrian error. However, witnesses did not see what caused the crash only the aftermath. Police took the woman’s word but are still conducting an investigation.
Investigators say the woman was driving her pickup north in the center lane of Coors. The woman was crossing the street and police say she may have been a few feet outside of the crossing area. However, police still need to answer why didn’t the woman slow down. There was still light outside and the driver should have been able to stop. Investigators will check the data from the woman’s car but at this time she has not been arrested or cited. The woman was not carrying I.D., and police are still trying to notify her next of kin. We will provide updates as they are released.
