One killed, six injured in a head-on collision in Las Cruces.
Troopers with the New Mexico State Police released the report about the crash. According to the report, a vehicle occupied by 26-year old Samatha Pacheco, 26-year-old Moses Perez, 6-year-old Jayden Perez and 23-month-old Matthew Perez was traveling south on U.S. 54 prior to the crash. As the car neared mile marker 111 near Lincoln County, Pacheco attempted to pass another southbound vehicle. While passing, her vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle driven by 52-year Larry Solley.
The collision was violent causing majoring injuries and fatally wounding one person. The identity of the person who was killed is being held until their next of kin is notified by police. A total of six people were injured as a result of the crash. Larry Solley was flown to University Medical Center and his passenger Joseph Merell along with Moses and Matthew Perez were taken to Geral Champion Hospital in Alamogordo. A third passenger in Solley’s vehicle was pronounced dead. The condition of the other’s in the Pacheco vehicle was not mentioned.
At this time, Samantha Pacheco has not faced punishment for her involvement in the crash. The initial report from Troopers did not indicate that criminal charges will stem from this case. However, this may change as the investigation proceeds. It is more likely this crash will be settled in civil court between the two parties.
