New Mexico State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 75 that killed Patrick Medina.
Officers at the scene said Medina was a passenger in a Hyundai driven by 21-year-old Anthony Sanchez. Police say the Hyundai crossed into oncoming traffic after Sanchez lost control of his vehicle near mile marker 16. After losing control of the vehicle, Sanchez failed to correct the vehicle and the car crossed the median into oncoming traffic. Sanchez’s vehicle drove into the path of Gregory Mascarenas’ car which had two passengers. The crash killed Patrick Medina who was not wearing a seatbelt. Also, Mascarenas’ and the passengers in the car sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Police at the scene began the investigation and were not able to give an official crash. Alcohol was not mentioned in the crash, so impairment was likely ruled out. However, police will check every detail twice and leave no stone unturned. Officers did not say if either of the drivers was cited at the scene and no other details have been released at this time. We will provide updates as the evidence is processed.
