The family of a William Arviso is devastated after the hit-and-run that seriously wounded their loved one.
According to the initial report, Arviso was biking home from a VA hospital prior to the crash. Arviso was an Army veteran and is always a father of three and grandfather of four. While Arviso was riding on Gibson Blvd he was being tailed by a white pickup truck. Arviso didn’t think too much of it and continued riding. Investigators say Arviso received a text message and pulled to the side of the road to answer. At this moment, the driver of the white pickup sped up and hit Arviso off his bike causing him to roll at least twice before stopping.
The white pickup never stopped to check on Arviso and fled the scene. Luckily, someone called 911 and emergency personnel rushed to the scene. It’s unclear how long it took paramedics to arrive, however, they were able to stabilize Arviso at the scene. Once stable, he was transported to UNM Hospital where he was treated for serious leg injuries. Doctors told Arviso to monitor his wound for any signs of infection. He was warned that he may lose his leg if he isn’t careful. Although in pain, Arviso is happy to still be living.
Police at the scene conducted the investigation. They noticed the white paint on Arviso’s bike and that gave them their first lead. Also, investigators noticed a nearby store and were able to obtain footage. The footage showed Arviso pull over and the pickup smashing him from behind. Police did not say if the license plate was visible or a description of the driver. It will likely be some time before the suspect if caught.
