Semi Driver Killed in Two Truck Accident Near Loving, New Mexico
New Mexico State Police says 39-year-old Stephen Houghtaling of Lake Arthur was killed Sunday on State Route 128 near Loving when his truck pulling a flatbed trailer collided with a tanker tractor-trailer.
The tanker’s driver, 47-year-old Isidrio Hernandez of El Paso, Texas, was hospitalized in Lubbock with serious injuries.
Cause of the investigation is under investigation. However, the State Police say Houghtaling’s vehicle crossed the center line before the collision and that alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.
New Mexico plaintiff’s lawyer Will Ferguson is actively following this fatal crash. “A higher level of negligence is likely at the core of this accident. Oil field truck drivers in this part of New Mexico often suffer from fatigue, illegal substance abuse and/or faulty equipment. Investigation often shows more than one of these factors in these truck wrecks.” states Ferguson. “Getting an investigator on the case asap is critical. The semi-trucks contain data boxes and GPS units that can give critical information about the collision. These must be analyzed before the information disappears.” Ferguson goes on to say “Responsible parties in this case may include the offending driver, the trucking company, the oil company and the shop responsible for maintenance of the semi.” Will Ferguson and Associates employs investigators who are experienced in these accidents.
Will Ferguson will continue to monitor the details of this crash as they become available.
