New Mexico Police are investigating the death of two motorists after their vehicle caught fire.
According to the report, officers were following a stolen vehicle when the car attempted to elude them. The chase began on Edith and Candelaria NW and tore through the streets of Albuquerque. Police backed off and called in air support to track the vehicle. The drivers began to drive recklessly turning their lights on and off to evade capture. Eventually, officers tried to use road spikes on two separate occasions but ultimately failed. Police then used P.I.T maneuvers to capture the suspects but that failed as well.
The luck of the drivers ran out near the intersection of Tramway and Central. While still evading police, the suspect vehicle crashed head-on with a tow truck
causing the vehicle to catch fire. Luckily, emergency personnel was able to pull all four occupants from the burning car. Two of the four occupants were killed in the accident and the other two were taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the tow truck also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
