According to the report, a woman named Carmen Rivera was driving home with her daughter on I-25. At the same time, Xavier Nelson was street racing along I-25 with another vehicle. At this time, it’s unknown if the driver was distracted before the crash. Nelson’s vehicle crashed into the back of Rivera’s car and ejected the 10-year-old girl. Investigators say Nelson was going about 100 mph at the time of the crash. Nelson was initially arrested but was released on bond.
Now, Xavier Nelson is in police custody and was ordered by the court to complete an alcohol treatment plan. The Rivera family is still mourning the loss of their loved one and have filed a wrongful death claim. The claim says Nelson and the person who let him drive their car are responsible for paying for their pain and suffering. It is unknown how much they are suing for or how long Nelson will be in custody. We will keep you updated on the story as it progresses.
